NFL Week 8 Awards 2026: A Win With Zero Completions and More
A team won without completing a pass. The last unbeaten team lost. The Jets blew a nine-point halftime lead and the Giants did not lose at all. Here are the Week 8 trophies.
Every NFL Sunday has a few games that make sense and one that does not. Week 8 had more than one of the second kind. So, as always, we handed out trophies. They are not real. Every stat behind them is, and every one was checked the morning after.
The Awards
Baker Mayfield threw three passes on Sunday and completed none of them. Tampa Bay finished with minus two passing yards and still shut out Atlanta 16-0. NFL.com counts it as the first win without a completion since the 1974 Bills, and the first one by 10 or more points since the 1945 Steelers. That is not a typo. That is 1945.
The plan, it turns out, was Bucky Irving. He ran for 170 yards, and NFL.com credits every one of them as coming after contact. Kenneth Gainwell added 140 more. The two backs combined for 310 rushing yards in the rain, which is a lot of yards to gain without the ball ever leaving a quarterback’s hand in a useful direction.
On the other side of the zero, Atlanta did complete passes, just not enough of them to its own team. Penix went 8 of 24 for 125 yards with 4 interceptions and a 12.0 passer rating. Alex Anzalone caught two of them himself, and the Falcons went 0 for 12 on third down. It was that kind of afternoon.
Bad days happen to good quarterbacks, and wet ones happen to everybody. Penix gets the trophy and, we hope, a towel.
Minnesota came in unbeaten and left with its first loss of the season. Jahmyr Gibbs carried 23 times for 153 yards, and Jameson Williams scored the game-winning touchdown. The Vikings blitzed Jared Goff on 83% of his dropbacks, per ESPN, and Detroit still found a way.
Six and one is a fine record. It is just not 7-0, and the team that took the zero off the loss column wears blue and silver.
Some quarterbacks need 40 attempts to throw for 210 yards. Lawrence needed 14. He completed 10, three went for touchdowns, and Jacksonville beat Indianapolis by 35, the biggest margin of the week. Bhayshul Tuten ran for 104 yards and scored twice.
The defense chipped in too: Rayuan Lane III returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown, which is longer than most of Lawrence’s drives needed to be.
Pittsburgh sacked Deshaun Watson eight times and won its fourth game in a row. Cleveland’s Harold Fannin Jr. caught 10 passes for 154 yards, which deserves its own small trophy, but it did not change the result.
ESPN notes that the Browns have now lost 23 straight road games in Pittsburgh. Some streaks are just geography.
Cincinnati gained 510 yards and turned it over four times, and it still needed overtime to get past Tennessee. Second-year Titans quarterback Cam Ward threw for a career-high 304 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
It was one of two overtime games on Sunday. In the other, Arizona beat Dallas 33-30 behind a career-high 147 rushing yards from Tyler Allgeier. The Cowboys are 3-5, and Jerry Jones says he is not considering a coaching change. Noted.
Allen threw for 289 yards, ran for 30 more, accounted for three touchdowns and threw one interception in a 26-point win over Baltimore. It was not his flashiest game. It was a 26-point win over the Ravens anyway.
Baltimore also lost Lamar Jackson to a thumb injury during the game. We wish him a quick recovery.
Bo Nix completed 20 of 32 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns, and Denver beat Kansas City by four. Rookie running back Jonah Coleman added 104 yards from scrimmage. Beating the Chiefs is never a small thing, and the Broncos did it without needing anything fancy.
The Chargers lost the battle of Los Angeles and are now 0-7. We are giving them this award because they deserve a trophy of some kind, and this is the one we have.
Week 8 started Thursday with Green Bay sacking Bryce Young six times in an eight-point win. Three days later Pittsburgh got eight on Watson, so the Packers only hold the silver medal, but they got there first.
Every Week 8 Result
Thirteen games are in the books, with one to go tonight. Jacksonville’s 35-point win was the biggest margin, Tampa Bay’s was the only shutout, and the 13 games produced 602 points.

Monday Night Football Preview
Chicago (5-2) visits Seattle (4-3) at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN and ABC. In 4 games (he has missed 3), Caleb Williams has completed 71.0% of his passes for 1,020 yards, 5 touchdowns and 1 interception, and he has run for 128 yards and 2 more scores, per SI’s betting preview.
As of that preview, DraftKings had Seattle favored by 3 with a total of 46.5. Two numbers to keep in mind: the Bears are an NFL-best 5-2 against the spread, and Sam Darnold has already thrown eight interceptions this season. Lines move, so check the latest before you take anything to the bank.
Meanwhile, in New York
Jets. New York led Las Vegas 23-14 at halftime and lost 38-33. It was the most points the Jets have allowed this season, Kirk Cousins threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another, and the loss drops the Jets to 2-6, with six losses in their last seven games. Next up is a trip to Kansas City on Sunday, per the Week 9 schedule.
Giants. The Giants did not lose this weekend, because they did not play: Week 8 was their bye. They sit at 4-2-1 and lead the NFC East. The team’s own notes say they have won games with three different quarterbacks this season, a first since quarterback starts were tracked in 1950, and that J.J. McCarthy, acquired from Minnesota this fall, is now the starter. John Harbaugh is 15-3 in games right after a bye. The first of those comes Sunday in Philadelphia, against an Eagles team that just fell to 2-6.
If you are watching the Bears tonight, a Caleb Williams Iceman shirt is the obvious call, and the Week 8 winners are covered too: the officially licensed NFLPA tee rack at Planet Euphoria has Josh Allen, Jahmyr Gibbs, Bo Nix and plenty more names from this page, each one drawn by hand and numbered.
Planet Euphoria’s hand-drawn NFLPA player tees: hand-printed in Schenectady, New York, individually numbered and limited to 500 per design. From $35, Ivory or Charcoal, adult and youth sizes.
