Week 2 · The Full Breakdown
NFL Week 2: Five Teams Under Ten Points, One Carted-Off Quarterback, and Josh Allen Scoring Five Times
Chicago went from 59 points to three. Baltimore lost at home. Atlanta got run off its own field. Every result, every big performance, and the full fantasy scoreboard.
Week 1 of the 2026 season was a fireworks display. Teams averaged more points than any opening weekend since the merger, the Bears hung 59 on Carolina, and every fantasy manager in America felt like a genius. Week 2 showed up with a bucket of cold water and a rain delay.
Chicago scored three points. Atlanta scored three points. Pittsburgh scored three points. The Ravens lost at home to New Orleans. The Falcons got run off their own field by Carolina. Caleb Williams was carted off. And in the middle of all that, Josh Allen scored five touchdowns, Patrick Mahomes threw for 382 in an overtime thriller, and CeeDee Lamb turned a coin toss into a personal grudge. Let’s go through all of it.

Five teams failed to reach double digits. Three of them were held to exactly three points. After a Week 1 in which offenses looked unstoppable, Week 2 belonged almost entirely to defenses and kickers.
Chicago Went From 59 Points to 3
The largest week-to-week faceplant of the young season.
Seven days after the Bears put up the most points in a season opener in franchise history, they managed a single field goal in a 9-3 loss to Minnesota. No touchdowns. Four field goals were the only scoring in the entire game, three of them by Will Reichard. Chicago’s passing offense finished 20 of 35 for 192 yards with no touchdowns, one interception, four sacks allowed, five dropped passes and a 60.7 passer rating. It rained all afternoon at Soldier Field.
Then it got worse. On first-and-goal in the fourth quarter, with Chicago trailing 6-3 and driving for the go-ahead score, Caleb Williams scrambled left, pulled up without being touched, and went down grabbing his right leg. He was helped off, carted to the locker room, and ruled out with a hamstring injury. He was 15 of 26 for 138 yards with an interception at the time. Tyson Bagent took over, drove the Bears back into scoring range, and was sacked on fourth down in the red zone to end it.
Monday’s MRI brought better news than Sunday suggested. Ben Johnson told ESPN that Williams is week to week with what has been described as a grade 1 strain rather than a tear. Johnson does not expect him to practice this week but has not ruled him out for Chicago’s Monday night home game against Philadelphia on September 28. Johnson’s immediate reaction after the game was relief that it was not a knee.
Fantasy read: if you have Williams, you need a streaming quarterback for at least one week, and you should not drop him. Bagent started four games in 2023 and went 2-2. He is a deep-league bye-week option at best, not a real starter in a twelve-team league.
Why the Vikings deserve the credit too
Minnesota is 2-0 and did this with defense. They blitzed Williams relentlessly from the opening series, finished with four sacks including two from Dallas Turner, forced a fumble, picked off a pass and blocked a field goal. Kevin O’Connell’s team also ran for 119 yards with Aaron Jones going for 105 before leaving with an injury of his own. This was not purely a Chicago failure.
Baltimore Lost at Home and Atlanta Lost Everything
Two of the week’s biggest favorites got their afternoons ruined.
Saints 24, Ravens 17. Baltimore led 17-9 in the third quarter and did not score again. New Orleans put up 15 unanswered in the fourth, including a 21-yard touchdown from Tyler Shough to Chris Olave, a successful two-point conversion to tie it, and Shough’s own one-yard touchdown run with 1:32 left. Shough finished 27 of 34 for 252 yards, a 107.4 rating, and did not turn the ball over once.
Lamar Jackson had the quietest game of his young season, going 21 of 31 for 235 yards with a touchdown to Rashod Bateman and an interception, finishing with an 87.4 rating after posting a 124.2 in Week 1. Derrick Henry scored again, his fourth touchdown in two weeks. Baltimore is 1-1 and hosts nothing pleasant next week; they travel to Dallas.
Panthers 34, Falcons 3. Carolina, which allowed 59 points in Week 1, went into Atlanta and won by 31. That is the largest swing of the week by any measure, and the Falcons managed a single field goal in their own building.
The Week 2 Fantasy Scoreboard
Quarterback scoring below uses the standard 0.04 per passing yard, four per passing touchdown, six per rushing touchdown, minus two per interception.
| Quarterback | Line | Fantasy Pts |
|---|---|---|
| Josh Allen, BUF | 20/31, 248 yds, 3 pass TD, 2 rush TD | 33.9 |
| Jared Goff, DET | 26/38, 327 yds, 4 TD, 0 INT | 29.1 |
| Patrick Mahomes, KC | 32/47, 382 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT | 27.3 |
| Dak Prescott, DAL | 26/31, 279 yds, 4 TD, 0 INT | 27.2 |
| Tyler Shough, NO | 27/34, 252 yds, 1 TD, 1 rush TD | 20.1 |
| Lamar Jackson, BAL | 21/31, 235 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT | 11.4 |
| Caleb Williams, CHI | 15/26, 138 yds, 0 TD, 1 INT (injured) | 3.5 |
Those quarterback totals exclude rushing yardage, which nudges several of them higher. Allen in particular gains more, since Buffalo ran for 203 yards as a team and he contributed scrambles on top of his two rushing scores. The gap at the top is real regardless.
The week’s best receiver performance belonged to CeeDee Lamb, who caught eight of nine targets for 153 yards and two touchdowns against Washington. That is 35.3 points in full PPR, 31.3 in half PPR and 27.3 in standard, and it made him the highest-scoring skill player we can verify from Sunday.
Multi-touchdown scorers: Josh Allen found the end zone five times in total, three through the air to Josh Palmer, Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid, and twice on the ground. Amon-Ra St. Brown caught two touchdowns for Detroit, including a 27-yarder in the final two minutes. Jonathan Taylor ran for two, from 24 and five yards, in the Colts’ overtime loss. Jake Ferguson caught two for Dallas. And Travis Kelce opened the Sunday night scoring for Kansas City with a 13-yard touchdown, a reminder that the 36-year-old is still very much part of that offense.
Josh Allen is going to win the fantasy championship for somebody this year, and it will be because of games exactly like this one. He did not have a monster passing day. Two hundred forty-eight yards is ordinary. What he did was score five touchdowns, two of them with his legs, which is the thing no other quarterback archetype can replicate. A pocket passer needs 350 yards and four scores to hit 30 points. Allen gets there on a Thursday night where he completed twenty passes. That floor is the whole ballgame.
Kansas City Needed Overtime and 523 Yards
The best game of the week, decided by a 40-yard kick.
The Chiefs beat Indianapolis 33-30 in overtime in a game that produced 852 combined yards. Mahomes went 32 of 47 for 382 yards and three touchdowns without an interception, spreading scores to Kelce, Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals, all from inside the 15. Kansas City held the ball for 37 minutes and still needed an extra period.
Indianapolis played them to a standstill behind Jonathan Taylor’s two rushing scores and a Daniel Jones line of 22 of 31 for 210 yards. Harrison Butker made four of five field goals including the 40-yard winner. Both teams kicked in overtime before the Chiefs’ final drive settled it. Kansas City is 2-0.
What to Watch Next Week
Three things that will actually move fantasy lineups.
Baltimore at Dallas, Sunday 4:25. The best matchup on the board. The Ravens need a response after losing at home, and Dallas just scored 37. Both offenses have obvious upside and both defenses have shown cracks. CeeDee Lamb against a Baltimore secondary led by Kyle Hamilton is the individual matchup to watch, and the game script points toward volume for everyone.
Chicago hosts Philadelphia on Monday night. Whether Caleb Williams plays will decide how the entire Bears offense is valued. If he sits, D’Andre Swift becomes the only reliable fantasy asset in that lineup.
Minnesota at Tampa Bay. The Vikings are 2-0 on the strength of a defense that has now smothered two offenses. Their defensive unit is a legitimate streaming play every week until somebody proves otherwise.
Wear the Week
Some Sundays deserve a souvenir.
Two weeks into a season is when fans stop watching football in general and start following particular players. The people who had Josh Allen on Thursday night, or watched Kelce open the scoring on Sunday, or lived through Lamb’s 153-yard afternoon, are the people who go looking for something to wear that is not a jersey replica.
That is the gap NFL graphic tees fill, and Planet Euphoria’s approach is a little different from the mass-market version. Every design is hand-drawn, hand-printed to order in Schenectady, New York, and individually numbered in a run capped at 500 pieces. Once a run sells out it is retired permanently. For fans building a collection around a specific season rather than a specific team, Planet Euphoria’s hand-drawn NFL collection covers most of the names in this article.
The Bottom Line
Week 2 was the correction to Week 1’s fireworks. Five teams failed to reach double digits, three were held to exactly three points, and the Bears authored the largest week-to-week collapse in recent memory while losing their quarterback to a hamstring strain in the process. But the top end was still spectacular: Josh Allen scored five touchdowns, Mahomes threw for 382 in an overtime classic, and CeeDee Lamb posted the best receiving line of the weekend. Baltimore travels to Dallas next Sunday in what looks like the game of Week 3, and Chicago’s Monday night matchup with Philadelphia hinges entirely on a hamstring.
